Facility Safety Rules

• Granite Recreation Association facilities are for use by current members and their guests only. Guests must be with a current member. Everyone must have their membership card, and must sign in at the guard’s desk. The Association is not responsible for the personal property of members, dependents, or guests, which is left, lost, damaged or stolen on Association property. Any Association property willfully damaged by any member or guest will be repaired or replaced at their expense.

• All accidents must be reported to a lifeguard immediately.

• Glass is not permitted. Cigarette butts should be placed in appropriate containers. Trash containers are available for your use around the facility. Please use them!

• Unsupervised children must be at least 12 years old, able to swim a length of the pool, and be sufficiently well-behaved not to disrupt the staff or bother other members. Children 11 and under must be supervised by someone 16 years old or over while on the property. Disruptive children will be sent home.

• No members, guests or employees are allowed down by the quarry. First time offenders will receive 2 weeks suspension with parental notification. Second offenses will result in the offender being suspended for the summer. Employees who engage in any quarry related activities are subject to immediate dismissal.

• Abusive or profane language, threats, or breach of peace will not be tolerated anywhere on association property.

• Pets are not permitted inside the fenced pool area or on the tennis courts.

Swimming Pool Safety Rules

• The swimming pool will be used only during scheduled hours when lifeguards are on duty. The lifeguards have the authority to close the pool at any time, in consideration of the health and safety of the members. (Cold weather, rain, electrical storms, an equipment malfunction, etc.) Everyone must leave the pool area in the event of an emergency.

• Dunking, pushing, running, falling backwards into the pool and rough play are prohibited.

• Bikes, skateboards, skates of any kind are not allowed.

• Gum is not allowed.

• An "Adult Swim" will be called by the lifeguards for 15 minutes at a quarter to the hour. Only adults, 18 years of age and older, may use the pool during this time. A child 2 years and under may accompany an adult if under the direct supervision of that adult.

• Approved life jackets, water wings and ring vests may be worn in the pools by children when accompanied and supervised an adult. Small children must be with an adult at all times.

• The baby pool is for the use of children age 5 and under only, and with the direct supervision of a responsible person, age 16 or older. Older children are not permitted in this pool.

• Hanging on the diving board, lane lines, the fill pipe or the lifeguard stands is not allowed.

• Snorkels and facemasks are not allowed. Swim fins may be used in the lap lane only.

Diving Safety Rules

• Non-swimmers are prohibited in the diving well. Swimmers may not jump or dive to the side; they must go straight off the end of the diving board.

• Only one person is permitted on the diving board or ladder at a time. After jumping or diving into the water the swimmer should swim directly to an exit before the next jump or dive is allowed.

• No floatation devices or goggles may be worn when using the diving board and swimmer must be able to swim unassisted to the ladder after entering the water.

• Parents who wish to stay in the water while their child uses the diving board must stay next to the ladder on the side of the pool while the child is on the board. They can swim to meet their child after the child has entered the water.

• Playing in the diving well when the diving board is in use is not permitted.

Lifeguard Regulations

• Except in emergencies, all conversations with lifeguards should be restricted to "off duty" time.

• Only authorized lifeguard personnel and snack bar personnel are allowed to be in the office.

• Only lifeguards are to be in the lifeguard stands.

• The lifeguards and manager are fully authorized to enforce all rules and regulations, and may temporarily suspend violators as they deem necessary.

Tennis Court Rules

• Tennis courts are to be used for tennis only. Bikes, go-carts, mini-bikes, skate boards, and skates of any kind are not allowed on the tennis courts.

• Appropriate court shoes are required on the tennis courts. Street shoes, bare feet, deck shoes, sandals, spikes and cleats are not permitted on the tennis courts. Non-players are prohibited from the courts at all times.

Guest Policy

• Richmond area residents may be a guest at the pool as many as 3 times during a summer.

• The guest fee is $5. A sheet of 8 passes can be purchased for $30.

• Out-of-town guests are not limited in the number of times they may visit the pool with their host member. The guest fees are the same.

Facility-Sponsored Events

• All persons, regardless of age, must wear proper swimming attire while in the swimming pool. Cut-off (un-hemmed) shorts are not considered appropriate swimming attire.

• Children still in diapers or potty training must wear swim diapers.

Private Parties

• Members planning to use the facility for a private party -- day or evening -- must make reservations in advance. Contact rentals@planetgranite.org.

• All parties must include an adult over 21 who must remain at the event.

• Daytime parties should not exceed 20 non-members unless authorized by the Board.

• All non-member guests must pay the required guest fee.

• Party host must clear the party area of all trash.

Parking Lot

• The handicap parking spaces are for those who have an authorized handicap sticker or license plates.

• When parking in the upper lot, please be sure you do not block the circular drive.

Consequences

• Granite is a family facility which strives to create a safe and pleasant environment for member families and their children. In order to maintain such an environment, lifeguards may remove persons from the facility if they deem it necessary.

• The first occurrence will result in the offender being denied access to Granite Association property for the remainder of that day. The second occurrence will result in suspension from the facility for 1 week. Upon a third offense, the party will be denied access for 1 month. The final cause of action for repeated offenses is for the balance of the summer.
